General Manager

Work Description – 2018

 

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the General Manager works collaboratively with the Artistic Director in ensuring the overall coordination and management of the Theatre program.

Financial Management:

  1. Participates, in collaboration with the Artistic Director, the Financial Administrator and the STF Treasurer, in the development of the annual operating budget for the Theatre, including forecasting and control.
  2. Ensures that good cash flow management practices are followed..
  3. Develops and maintain financial controls and procedures to govern all financial activities.
  4. Reviews and authorizes the purchase of equipment and materials – non capital, with limit of $250.
  5. Identifies potential problems, concerns and shortfalls and recommends solutions to the STF Executive.
  6. Reviews, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and the Financial Administrator, monthly financial statements and schedules as required.
  7. In collaboration with the Artistic Director and STF Executive, seeks funding opportunities and sponsor ships, prepares applications and administers all government, capital and administrative grants. Completes final financial and other reporting requirements.
  8. Initiates proactive liaison with funding agencies and sponsors with respect to funding opportunities and existing grants.
  9. Manage and analyze box office ticket sales and reports to the Board on findings.

Administrative Leadership:

  1. Participates, in collaboration with the STF Hiring Committee, in the hiring of office and administrative staff.
  2. Works with the Artistic Director in making joint decisions, based on General Manager recommendations on matters such as budgets, publicity/promotion, hiring, etc. before presenting to the Board for approval.
  3. Signs all contracts except that of the Artistic Director.
  4. In collaboration with the STF Executive, develops and administers effective office and general administrative procedures and ensures the necessary resources are available to carry them out.
  5. Supervises the day-to-day activities of the office, and administrative and accounting procedures.
  6. Participates, in collaboration with the STF Human Resource Committee, in the development of personnel policies and procedures.
  7. Ensures the management and security of the organization’s databases.
  8. Ensures the organization’s adherence to Federal, Provincial and municipal legislation (e.g. Corporations return, GST, HST, Employment Standards, Health and Safety, etc.)
  9. In collaboration with the Artistic Director, negotiates and develops agreements and contracts on behalf of the Theatre, including:

– Actors and stage management

– Insurance coverage

– Canadian Actors’ Equity Association

– Office, storage, rehearsal and performance space

– Service agreements on equipment.

Promotions and Communications:

  1. Leads the social media strategy for STF to create and maintain an optimized social media presence for the organization.
  2. Assists, in collaboration with the Artistic Director and the STF Board, the promotion of the company, shows and other events related to the season.
  3. Develops press releases and liaises with media outlets.
  4. Manages and updates, in conjunction with the AD, STF Board Executive and Financial Administrator, the STF website and social media contact.
  5. Leads and oversees, through external contracting, the design, printing and dissemination of performance brochures, flyers, posters, and other collateral materials.
